Important NPCs

Aldo the Chronicler, the travellers (Kalden and the Ash Wanderer), Csenge the Ash Researcher and the merchants and masters of the cities – who stands where and what they offer.

A handful of NPCs in the cities and regions of Nareth accompany you through the whole adventure: they start the story, carry you from one region to the next, and handle your trading, storage and upgrades. This page goes through them one by one, together with the options in their dialogue menus.

Aldo the Chronicler

Aldo the Chronicler is the old scholar who found you after the shard brought you back to life. He says every shard finds its way home, and you are the one who will carry them there.

  • Where: in all three capitals, and in the regions of the Chronicle chapters, at the starting point next to the Ferryman.
  • Chronicle – the next chapter: its story, its location and the current task. This is also where you close chapters. Details: The Chronicle.
  • Heroes' Shop – Aldo's shop.

Kalden the Ferryman

Kalden the Ferryman is Nareth's main traveller.

  • Where: at the starting point of every region and in all three capitals.
  • Travel – takes you to any region already open to you. Destinations are grouped: Cities and valleys, levels 10–99, levels 100–199, level 200 and up.
  • Dungeon / boss room – the entrance to the dungeons, from any region. Details: Dungeons.
  • Festival task – one gathering task per day during festivals. Details: Events.

Ash Wanderer

The Ash Wanderer is an old wanderer in an ash-grey hooded robe and cloak; a glowing iron lantern hangs from his gnarled walking staff.

  • Where: at the starting point of every region and in all three capitals, next to the Ferryman.
  • Travel to the new lands of Nareth – takes you to the same places, under the same rule and for the same fare as the Ferryman. He does not offer the region you are currently in.

Travel rules and fares

  • A place is open to you if you are at most 10 levels below its recommended level and you have reached its chapter in the Chronicle – or have been there before. Cities are always open.
  • Fare: the destination's level × 5 silver, but at least 10 silver.

Cities, starting valleys (level 1)10 silver
Riven Spine (level 20)1 gold
Ironhorn Highlands (level 110)5 gold 50 silver

Csenge the Ash Researcher

Csenge the Ash Researcher stands next to Aldo in all three capitals. She collects traces of the Ash Cult and the shards: if we understand what the ash does, perhaps we can stop it.

  • On the Trail of Ash – a ten-stage research series from level 30 to level 280. The traces are dropped by Chronicle monsters, and every stage grants a permanent bonus. The stages are listed on The Chronicle page.

City NPCs

The same NPCs stand in all three capitals, around the starting point.

The masters of the orders

The five classes are heirs to five old orders. The order masters can be found in all three capitals: they set you a trial at levels 30, 60, 120, 180 and 240, and each trial unlocks a new skill rank (II–V and Legendary). See Skill ranks.
