Ashwell

A timed, tiered endgame run with 150 tiers: fill the Ash gauge, defeat the Wellwarden and dive ever deeper.

The Ashwell is LegendaMMO's timed endgame run. You have ten minutes to fill the Ash gauge in the depths of the well, draw out the Wellwarden and bring it down. Every successful run lets you dive deeper, all the way to tier 150.

"Where the largest shards struck, the earth opened like a well, and the ash still pulls ever deeper. Every tier is another layer."

How to start

  • Ashwell Gate: each of the three capitals (Bloodmoon Keep, Suncrown Keep, Veilharbor) has a gate on the south side of its main square. Talk to it, pick Ashwell, then choose a tier.
  • Runs window (O key or the sidebar button), Ashwell tab: shows your deepest tier, your best result this week and the weekly leaderboard. You can start a run from here or queue for a group (see Runs).
  • Ashwell Gates can also be shown on the world map (M) through the Markers panel.

Entry is currently free.

Tiers

  • The Ashwell has 150 tiers. You can always start at your deepest tier reached plus one: if your best is tier 12, tier 13 is open to you.
  • The gate offers the highest tier you can start and the four below it.
  • Monsters come from your level bracket (in a party, the leader's) and grow stronger with every tier: they hit harder and take longer to kill. Higher tiers also put more monsters in the chambers at once.

How a run works

  1. Entering. The run takes place in a private instance of the Ashwell, just for you and your party. The four well maps rotate by tier: Root Hall, Ash Gorge, Spore Ring and Deeproot. This underground fungal world is a maze of chambers and tunnels, ending in the Wellwarden's hall.
  2. Ten minutes. The clock starts when you enter.
  3. Ash gauge. Every monster you kill fills the gauge; elites fill it faster. The run bar at the top of the screen shows the tier, the Ash gauge, the time left and the number of deaths.
  4. The Wellwarden. At 100% the chambers clear and the Wellwarden awakens in the middle of its hall with two escorts. It is the boss of your level bracket, in a form that grows stronger with each tier.
  5. Victory or defeat. If the Wellwarden falls before time runs out, the run succeeds. If time runs out, or the leader leaves the well, the run fails. Eight seconds after the run ends, everyone is returned to where they started.

Rewards

After a successful run, every party member inside the well's instance receives:

RewardAmount
Experience3% of the experience needed for your next level, plus 0.2% per tier
Gold Bar1, plus 1 more for every 10 tiers
Elder Runefrom tier 5: a (10 + tier)% chance, up to 60%; from tier 30, one in three of these runes is rare

Weekly leaderboard

  • Every successful run is entered on the weekly leaderboard. Ranking goes by deepest tier, then by fastest time within the same tier.
  • The Ashwell tab of the Runs window shows the week's top ten with class, tier and time.
  • The leaderboard resets every week.

Party rules

  • You can run the Ashwell solo or with a party. In a party only the leader can start the run, at the tier they choose; party members within 50 metres of the leader enter with them.
  • Your party members' kills also fill the Ash gauge.
  • The automatic group finder (Runs window) matches players at most ±3 tiers apart. Once the party is formed, everyone joins the leader, who starts the run.
  • You can only have one run going at a time. You cannot start the Ashwell during a Dread Gate, or the other way round (see Dread Gates).
  • You cannot start a run while dead, inside a dungeon or arena, or while trading or shopping.

In development

These are part of the Ashwell's design but not yet active in the live version:

  • Ash Crystal: compressed shard-ash that the well's gate will accept as the entry fee.
  • Wellstone: a still-warm stone from the depths, used to empower the imprints of the Hero's Journal.
  • Welldiver, a weekly title for the week's top ten.
