Five companions, five paths – each stands at your side for reasons of their own. The companions appear in the chapters of the Chronicle, and their paths cross yours again and again over the course of the story. This page only introduces them; the rest is told by the Chronicle.

Tarvin Moonblade
Guardian knight · Order of the Blood Moon
Knight of the Order of the Blood Moon. He believes in his oath and his Order, and he promises to guard your back. What he promises, he keeps. The Order is made up of warriors sworn under the Red Moon, who hold that the world must be held together whatever the cost. See Order of the Blood Moon.
Urza Ashfang
Shaman · no faction
Daughter of an orc chieftain who does not believe her father's promises. She seeks the voices of her ancestors. The orcs of the Riven Spine follow the voices of their ancestors, but the ancestors have been silent for a thousand years. See Orc.
Sereth Mistvoice
Shadow mage · Azure Veil League
A demonblooded shadow mage of the Azure Veil League. He hears the dead, and he is far too curious for his own good. The horns are real – best to get past that quickly. The League studies the Veil, the border between the living and the dead, and the demonblooded are the first to hear what the darkness whispers. See Demonblooded.
Liora Goldword
Envoy and diplomat · Suncrown Alliance
Envoy of the Suncrown. Witty, generous, and truly convinced that a shard could end poverty. The Alliance sees a shard not as a curse but as a resource. See Suncrown Alliance.
Ilvaen
Archer · the Moonarrow · no faction
The nine-hundred-year-old elven guardian of the Bloodpine Woods. Hardly any children have been born to his people in a thousand years, and he still remembers the old days. In chapter 13 he is the one who asks for help when the elves' soul-tree goes mad as well. See Elf.
